Cookies and local storage

This page explains what this website stores in your browser, why, and how you can control it — and what the platform we operate stores on your device. It sits alongside the Privacy Policy, which is the fuller document.

Short version: this is a static site. It carries no advertising and no tracking scripts, and it sets no cookies of its own. What gets set here is a small number of strictly necessary security cookies from our content delivery provider, plus one session flag if you dismiss the pre-launch notice. On the platform, a game may write your own progress into your own browser.

1. How Australia handles cookies

If you have used websites based in the United Kingdom or the European Union you will be used to a blocking banner that asks for consent before any cookie is set. That banner exists because of the ePrivacy Directive and, in the UK, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.

Australia has no equivalent. There is no ePrivacy Directive here and no PECR, and there is no standalone Australian legal requirement to obtain prior opt-in consent before setting a non-essential cookie. Cookies and similar identifiers are regulated through the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and only to the extent that what they collect is personal information — information about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable.

That threshold is not a loophole and we do not treat it as one. A persistent identifier combined with an IP address and device data can meet the test, and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner’s position has been trending towards treating online identifiers as personal information wherever re-identification is reasonably possible.

So there is no consent wall on this site, because the law does not require one and because we would only be asking you to consent to things we do not do. What the law does require is that we tell you clearly what is set, by whom, why, and how to turn it off. That is the rest of this page.

2. What this site actually sets

kidzplayzone.co is a static website. It has no login, no session, no shopping basket, no personalisation, no form and no advertising. That removes every ordinary reason a site sets a cookie.

What remains:

Content delivery and security cookies

Our site is served through Cloudflare’s content delivery and security network. Cloudflare sets a small number of cookies used to identify and filter malicious traffic, to distinguish automated requests from real visitors, and to keep the site available under load. These are strictly necessary for the site to be served safely. They are set by Cloudflare rather than by us, they are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking, and we do not read them.

Pre-launch notice dismissal

The quiet pre-launch notice on these pages uses your browser’s session storage to remember that you dismissed it, so it does not reappear on every page. Session storage is cleared when you close the tab. It holds a single flag and nothing about you.

That is the complete list of what this site sets by itself.

3. Local storage on this site and on the platform

This website writes nothing to local storage at all. Games on the platform are the exception, and they use a different mechanism.

Where a game saves a high score, a level you reached, or a sound or difficulty setting, it writes that into your browser’s local storage. Local storage is not a cookie. It is not attached to network requests, so it is not sent to a server the way a cookie is. It sits on your device, it can be read only by pages served from the same origin as the game that wrote it, and it persists until you clear your browsing data.

Three consequences worth knowing:

• Your progress does not follow you between devices or browsers, because it never leaves the device it was made on.
• We cannot see it, cannot recover it, and cannot restore it if you lose it.
• Clearing site data in your browser deletes it permanently.

A game may also set its own cookies or storage where it is served from a developer’s own domain. Where that happens it is that developer’s storage under their own terms, not ours.

4. Analytics

This website runs no analytics. There is no measurement script of any kind on it, from us or from anyone else.

Our stated position, and the one this site is currently built to, is that if we measure anything it will be with a cookieless or IP-anonymised tool that does not serve advertising, does not set a persistent identifier and does not share data with anyone. There are three reasons for that, and only one of them is legal.

• It keeps what is collected arguably outside “personal information”, which keeps us clear of a good deal of the Privacy Act analysis.
• It avoids the cross-border disclosure problem under Australian Privacy Principle 8, since there is less to disclose.
• For a platform with a 13-and-over audience it is simply the honest position.

If analytics is introduced, this page names the provider, the country it operates from, what it collects, and how to opt out — before it goes live, not after.

5. What this site does not use

To be specific, none of the following is present on kidzplayzone.co:

• Advertising cookies or ad-network tags.
• Retargeting or remarketing pixels.
• Social-media tracking widgets or share buttons that phone home.
• Cross-site advertising identifiers.
• Browser fingerprinting scripts.
• Any third-party script whose purpose is to build a profile of you.

The only third-party host this site connects to for assets is Google Fonts, which serves the two typefaces the site uses. No cookie is set by that request.

6. Advertising, and what would change here

The platform we operate is funded by advertising, and that advertising is contextual: matched to the page, never to the person. This website carries no advertising at all and runs no advertising scripts. The standards applied to advertising on the platform are set out under Safety & suitability.

We are not planning to run behavioural advertising anywhere, and section 9 of the Privacy Policy explains why an audience that skews young makes that a bad idea regardless of the law. If it were ever introduced, the calculus changes in three ways and we would rather set them out now than surprise you later.

• An advertising or retargeting pixel is likely a disclosure of personal information to an overseas recipient, which brings Australian Privacy Principle 8 fully into play.
• Depending on how it is structured, it may amount to disclosing personal information for a benefit, service or advantage — which would remove the small business exemption discussed in section 3 of the Privacy Policy and bring the whole company under the Privacy Act by force rather than by choice.
• At that point an explicit, granular consent mechanism becomes the sensible design, even though Australian law does not strictly mandate one for cookies.

So advertising stays contextual — matched to the page, not to you — and if anything about that changes, this page and the Privacy Policy are updated before the first advert is served, not after.

7. How to control cookies and storage

You are in control of this on your own device, and you do not need our permission.

Blocking or deleting cookies

Every current browser lets you block cookies, block third-party cookies specifically, delete cookies for a single site, or delete everything. Look under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking the security cookies described in section 2 may mean you are challenged more often or, in some configurations, that pages fail to load.

Clearing local storage

Clearing “site data” or “cookies and other site data” in your browser removes local storage as well. On the platform that deletes saved game progress permanently, so do it deliberately.

Private or incognito browsing

A private window discards cookies and storage when you close it. Games on the platform will not remember your progress between sessions.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We do not track you across sites, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off here. We mention them only so you know we are not quietly ignoring them.

8. Questions

If you want to know exactly what is stored in your browser by this site, your browser’s developer tools will show you under Application or Storage — and we would rather you looked than took our word for it.

If something on this page does not match what you find, tell us: privacy@kidzplayzone.co. That is a genuine invitation. A cookie policy that has drifted out of date is a misleading representation, and we would like to know before someone else points it out.
